Singer 319W -- tell me about it, please!

Yesterday I had someone hand me a Singer 319W and said, "here, you can have it, I've been tripping over it for 20 years, so it's time for it to go." A FREEBIE -- yippee!

Now, I know that this is a light industrial machine, so says Singer, and that many of them were in homes where people would do piece work for factories at home to earn extra income -- Pennsylvania, at one time, was a haven for clothing manufacturing. What I would like to know is just how reliable a machine is this (is it a work horse, or a weak one). It would be helpful with your opinions input so I know if I should take the time to bring it back to useable status, which I am fairly sure won't take much to do, or should I place in on the shelf, right behind sewing machine number

101 in my basement?

Heavy-duty fantastic machine. Will sew nearly anything, from chiffon to thick leather. Also takes cams for patterning. It is an amazing machine and worthy of house room.

Lucky you. This is an excellent machine. It takes a different needle from a normal domestic machine but is well worth the time to find them. DO NOT have you repair guy change the timing no matter what he says, it does compromise the workings of the machine. I have a 306k and shipped a 319 last month. Check with

to get more information. It isa wonderful machine and you can get the pattern cams on E-bay quitereasonable. There are about 30 of them I think. It is definately aworkhorse of a machine, and right up there with the classic Singers.
