Sock Monkey Socks?

Help! I got a pattern for my son to make a sock monkey (in lieu of a real monkey that he really wanted haha) ......and I was too cheap to buy the socks from a mail order source thinking I could walk into any store and find them. But yesterday I found it wasn't so easy. Does anyone know where I can find "Sock Monkey Socks" without mail ordering them ....since I think it is too late for that without spending a fortune for next day air. Thanks, Joy

You don't say where you are, Joy, but I found some in Sav-On, a discount drug store, in their Christmas stuff. Look for "boot socks" and I'll bet you'll find some.

I would try your local "farm store", the one near me carries the socks used to make sock monkeys most of the time.

I've seen them in sporting good stores and even the sporting good department of discount stores like Wal-Mart.

Good luck, Bonnie

Look in the boot socks for the color you want, and the contrasting heels and toes.

If you have an Army/Navy surplus store near you, check them out. Good luck! Peggy

Yeah, today I see floor as I did get the family cleaning yesterday, so will divide and conquer some stores. Sadly, I havn't started my Christmas sewing, but aside from locating those sock monkey socks (which I am only making into kits) I at least have the rest of the materials and supplies for my other projects, which I consider half the battle (and I do work well under pressure). Saturday I managed to turn out 8 batches of Cinnamon Rolls (uncooked - since you all know I can't actually cook) for my friends and I hosted a cookie exchange party (first party in 20 years) so I could get some baked yummies in the house for my kids. Well, I can cook some cookies, but it was fun anyway. The kitchen is somewhat clean and I am in need of nothing. I truly want to just get organized. If someone could just wrap up a "Clean Sweep" I would be thrilled. As it is, I honestly feel like one more thing coming through the front door is one more thing I have to manage! I guess my stash is out of control and I need to get a handle on things around here. I don't know if I need a game show or a bomb for motivation. Joy

Sounds a little hard on the teeth, Joy! LOL

When I took home ec, it was the desire of many years fulfilled--my main ambition had been to become a sophomore so I could finally take sewing lessons (even though I'd memorized every sewing book in the library by then, and had been "sewing" in my head for years). The cooking class that took up half the year was incidental, and since I was so impatient for the sewing to start, I paid just enough attention to get decent grades. Really didn't get into cooking until we added onto our 1930s house five years ago, creating a beautiful, big kitchen with wonderful counter space. Now I love to cook, which my family is so grateful about. LOL

Unfortunately, I've left the Christmas lunch/pie ingredient shopping too late. I noticed incredibly crammed parking lots this morning on my way back from my walk. Ugh. Not looking forward to shopping today.

May all your Christmas/Hannukah/Kwaanza dreams come true!

Wow! Your house and kitchen sound like a dream and I can only immagine the wonderful smells coming out of it. May you and yours be blessed this season and the coming year and also to our internet "family". Joy

Well, my sewing is all finished except one DGD's apron, which will be done this morning. All gifts mailed out & have been received. So, I'll finish the apron, complete packing, and after lunch,DS & I will leave for Memphis to visit eldest DD and family(apron is for DGD). After visiting them for the weekend, we'll drive south through MS, sight-seeing, stopping in my hometown to see my aunt, who turned 97 last week, on to the coast to see friends, then home to Houston. This is my gift from DS, which I shall treasure forever. Happy, Safe Holidays. Emily

o.k. I had told you all that I had all the supplies for my last minute projects that I was going to sew on Christmas eve. Well, I pulled out the pattern for my moms polar fleece pullover and the Butterick pattern 3255 I had chosen (view D) and discovered the WRONG SIZE pattern in the envelope! So there I was at 11pm altering the pattern. Yes I cut the pattern and yes, I am going to expect my money back. Don't you think? Do you check to make sure the pattern in the envelope is the same as marked on the envelope? I never thought to before now. Anyway, my daughters nightgown was from an old pattern Simplicity pattern 5193 marked 60 cents. Don't know when it would have been made but is very sweet. Unfortunately, one of the buttons had a hairline crack and wouldn't sew on.....so I have to go back to the store for one more button (that I am thinking I shouldn't have to pay for). Also, the placket below the yoke didn't call for any buttons but my daughter feels uncomfortable about it not being secured...so I will probably add some small hidden snaps or something. (I had also used the same pattern to make the "old lady dress" for my sons Halloween Costume where he is the baby riding on the grannys back.) Joy
