for posting anything off topic here. I got an abuse complaint sent from someone claiming to be the moderator of another group. Why I was singled out, is beyond me, but I will try to refrain from posting anything else off topic in the future.
Usenet newsgroups don't have moderators, so it seems a little weird that anyone would send you a complaint and use the claim of being a 'moderator' of another group as some sort of police badge to single you out. Now, YAHOO groups have moderators, but they have nothing to do with the Usenet, which is what *this* is. =20
IMHO your gett>for posting anything off topic here. I got an abuse complaint sent from= =20

Ignore. The great thing about his ng is that as well as getting help with sewing projects the "sisterhood" is spread around the world. It's amazing how many people go through the same troubles and can shed some objective light on a problem.
Hope your mum is hanging in there. Look on the bright side - things can only get better!
Too bad. Ignore it. I too appreciate knowing that we all are going through similar stuff in life and enjoy straying off topic now and again. I am uncomfortable in groups that are so single-focused that they seem to not have but one interest or objective in life. Joy
For my part, this newsgroup is more than just sewing. It's about fellowship as well. It's nice to know there are real people behind the posts. Mike in Wisconsin
I have to 'second' "Viviane's" above. Mainly because it's sadly miserable when some isolated 'fruitcake' can write a 'complaint' on or off the group and make someone else feel down. So just forget about it 'CNYstitcher'. There're _always_ going to be those that will take _any_ chance to put another 'down'. Yeah, it's Sad, but part of the 'people spectrum' of not only this group , but any community.
Such 'complainants' are there to _be ignored_ !! A 'test', if you like! :)) If something is written that's so far 'out' to be "off topic" ( ??? ) then no-one will respond. And if a 'public' complaint is written in the manner you report then the 'fruitcake' will be submerged in an avalanche of responses in defence of your _right_ to write as you feel. Hey, that's a major part of the warm, 'real' person element of this group, so just 'go' for it.
My words here are partly motivated by the response to my recent query on this group re. the restoration of my old 'industrial' machine .... still warmly echoing for me. It is just _so good_ !!! Though I draw the line at qualifying for 'sisterhood', given that I'm the father of two lovely daughters, "mon raison d'etre "... !!! Heheheh..
Hmm... yes, but it wasn't necessarily anyone at alt.sewing who set the dogs on CNYstitcher. I see her exact same post about this over at rec.crafts.textiles.quilting, so it could have been one of a thousand people. The hazards of roaming too far off subject, combined with cross-posting. Online, that's like drinking and driving. Cea
Um, rec.crafts.jewelry has a moderator. And when he goes on vacation, the list is completely halted, until he comes back, and approves all the waiting messages.
I'm very new to usenet, and I have heard three times now that there are no moderators, but rcj has one, so i am confused!
There are some moderated newsgroups, but they are few and far between and in general moderating the newsgroup impacts it negatively.
I can think of one exception: rec.food.recipes, which has a large moderating team and strict rules and is a very successful, high-volume, and high-content group.
