I searched in all the usual places for the left-over boning from DD's wedding gown, but it was hiding *very well*. So I just came back from buying 4 yards for the Highland vests (I really only need 2/3 yard per vest, but I know for sure I'll be making at least three). Each side of the center front is boned, and the boning is sewn to the hair-canvas underlining. Nerts! I have to take out the underlining basting, and sew the boning channels. I think I'll use scraps of silk organza, doubled, to cut down on the bulk.
I cut the boning in a curve at the ends and ran it through a candle flame, which makes a nice blunt end. I have seen some of the girls being tortured by pokey boning. :-(
