Here is another in my ongoing quest for making useful three dimensional objects out of left over quilting bits and pieces. The piece in question is 6" wide and 56" long and is in fact filled with wool batting, and is made up out of some of my leftover solids. I had not tried to make a scarf out of quilted material before so this was just a test. And, it is a successful one at that. If you wash the scarf in cold water, and dry it on delicate in the dryer it removes all the stiffness that is sometimes present with ironed patchwork. Soft and subtle is the word here, and if you fold over the top as it passes around your neck, you reduce the height and bulk of the 6" of fabric, to 3" and the unfolded length of the scarf lays flat against your chest. Altogether a wonder new direction in quilting for anybody to try, No pattern necessary, just plenty of scraps and those Christmas gifts will fill the bin under the bed on no time. Now my wife wants this one as she says it is too girly for me, so I have to pick some masculine colors and make one for myself. Here you go.
