Much as I loved Eowyn's gowns, I doubt I have the time or skill to do anything like that before Halloween. Still, I have in recent years begun to frequent Chiller conventions (think Renaissance without the taste or historical cachet). I've gotten to be friends with a number of the crew, but I've never gone all-out in the costume department; partly because of personal preference, partly because of time constraints, partly because I need something I can work in .
Tonight, I found the perfect ugly dress at the Goodwill, for $13. This dress ... Uglydress.com should pay me for photos. ((It wasn't bridesmaidsy, it was an ugly formal gown.) It was a few sizes too small, though. I could zip it but I couldn't breathe. Not a problem; it helps the illusion if you're there as a zombie. Still, I'm not dead yet, and an occasional breath is a good idea.
Thanks to your "bias cut disaster" page, I had some sense of what would be needed to allow my ribs to expand. I'd never tried alterations before, but I opened four of the seams per your illustrations, and I can breathe a bit now
This should prove interesting. It's an ugly dress, but I look good in it. Thanks, Kate!
Judy.
