Consider the cheap, useful and ubiquitous icons ' :) ' and its cousins 'G' and 'TIC'. These cheap abrasives, used with seemingly friendly but often deliberate intention, efficiently hide scarcasm (sic), unearned authority, sharp retorts and bad manners. Mean twisted grain bolstered by fellow bark inclusions can be smoothed acceptably by the grit of acrid humor.
Consider the quick umbrage grind. this cutting tool is ground with long drawn back serrated edges and oblique angles. It can be used to gouge divisively and masquerades under many names. Here on RCW it is often referred to as the "Cop Out" grind.
An effective finish for glossing over ugly roughing cuts and digs is thinned " But Seriously " pomade. It is oily and not very long lasting, but it is cheap and acts as a quick fix.
"I have learned how to hold and present these tools and employ them all too well ." (This old "it's me not you" shoe doesn't fit. Denigrating myself while doing the same unto others is a great aid to timid turners who lack the guts for an open scrape or thrusting cut.)
I understand that a few others have bought and are beginning to apply these aids to better turning. I hope not many because too much faux sweetness will soon rot a thread or even a ng.
Finally, my favorite boring tool for making bitter medicine go down, the lame and not always appropriate or well received "COC" . I reckon it's always the bit dog that yelps the loudest. --. .-. .. -. Arch
p.s. But seriously, I only mean to help. A
