eBay 'sales'

I just did a search on eBay for "wooden bowls". How depressing! The prices being asked / bid wouldn't be enough to get me to walk down stairs to my workshop, let alone actually turn anything.

It doesn't help that there are some 700+ offerings ... mostly 'antique' stuff that appears to have been scrounged from estate sales.

People keep suggesting that I sell from eBay ... but I'm not interested in working for 30 cents / hour.

IMO, buying things like bowls is a "touchy-feely" thing and is not well suited to either Ebay or other internet type sales places... (I hate to say that, since i do web pages for a living)

I'm amazed at the stuff people buy, mainly because i see it as a turning project... and that isn't how people shop.. *g*

I like to say that "bowl buyers are pretty dumb" when I'm needling my sort of snobbish turning friends... They buy things that they like the look, color, feel, etc. of.. they don't pay attention to the IMPORTANT things, like the type of wood, wall thickness uniformity, bowl bottom finishing, difficulty of turning or anything.. what dummies!!! *tongue poking through cheek*

On Ebay, type in walsh bowl . You get a bunch of bowls by David Walsh. He seems to have found a system that works for him. Not every item gets the price one might hope for, but he seems to make money in the quantity he turns out.
