I tried my hand at ebonizing an ash bowl today and had some trouble getting an even application of the leather dye (Fiebings USMC Black).
My first pass was with an old t-shirt and I felt I wasn't getting enough on. The second pass was with the little dauber that comes with the dye. I definitely got enough on but I have shiny streaks where there was more than in other areas. I am planning to hit it with 1000 grit in the AM to see if I can even it out. Any other suggestions on technique or treament?
