Grinder Info for Xmas Present?

My wife and I are looking to buy a grinder for my son in law. Christmas is slowly coming... Anyone know what size arbor / shaft the Woodcraft slow speed grinder has?

For that matter, anyone bought one (taiwan made) recently and got anything good / bad to say about it? I think they used to be made elsewhere, so a recent buyer would probably have the best information. Thanks.

I bought the Woodcraft slow speed grinder and am very pleased with it. The arbor is 5/8" and the wheel diameters are 8". You will need 10mm and

12mm wrenches to adjust the tool rests.

I made my version of the Wolverine jig to sharpen my gouges and it works well without spending a lot of money.

I suggest that you buy their diamond wheel dresser when you order the grinder.

I got mine maybe 1 1/2 yrs ago. One downside - It has sliding rests so the flat rest cannot be adjusted to angles. I made a homemade tilting rest. Otherwise works great.

I've had mine several months now. I definitely second the idea that the diamond wheel dresser is a good purchase. I use mine with a OneWay Wolverine system, so I can't comment about the toolrests. Once I got the wheels trued up, it has been very nice. I guess, to sum it up, I'm happy with the choice.

Thanks, I appreciate the information. Going to order it today, just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything like a Crapsman my dad bought not too long back...
