Grinding wheel on Mercury Lathe

Some time ago I saw where someone adapted a grinding wheel to the outboard side of the lathe and covered it with something so it could also be used as a hand wheel. I mounted the stone but as soon as you begin a cut on wood mounted in normal fashion the outboard attachment will loosen and spin off. I suppose one could use a set screw but I wonder about damaging the threads on the outboard spindle.

Any advise? thanks

I've used both "brass" and those nylon license plate bolts, both with success and no damage to my spindle thread. Also I've use a small lead plug to seat the setscrew onto the spindle, this is my personal favorite.
