Grizzly G1019

Good Evening: I'm working on setting up a used Grizzly G1019 14" bandsaw. I'm having trouble getting the 2 wheels to be coplaner. I'm off by about

1/4". The upper wheel is recessed. Is this normal for this bandsaw ? Should I add a washer as a shim to the upper wheel? I know this bandsaw is considered not the most accurate but 1/4" off does seem a bit excessive. I've tried moving the upper arm as much as it will allow but the closet I can get and still be parallel is about 1/4". Any help would be appreciated.

If you ever want the blades to track right they have to be coplaner. If it takes a 1/4" washer (which does sound like alot) then that is what I would use and try it out. If you keep the blade tracking in the center of the wheel you will have good control with all cuts.

Paul,

If you haven't gotten an answer by the time I get home tonight I'll take a look at mine. If I recall correctly, the upper wheel has a set screw on the shaft that holds it. Loosen the setscrew and move the wheel in or out to get it directly over the lower wheel. You can the adjust the tracking with the knob. I'll double check that tonight.

While you are messing with it, get a pair of urethane tires from Rockler and a blade from Highland Woodworking for cutting wet wood. They are both woth their weight.

I took a look at it last night and I could not find a set screw. I did end up putting a washer in behind the wheel and it looks like I'm within a few thousanths. By holding up a 5 foot level I can see just a little gap while turning the wheel. I think this is as close as this machine will get. It does sound a lot better know that I've replaced all the bearings and the rubber tires, realigned the motor(it was twisted to one side about 20 degrees), got the wheels parallel and coplaner and aligned the guides. Thank you for your help though.
