I've heard they are good for making parting tools. Could someone direct me to a good supplier? How much should I expect to spend?

i know jigsaw blades are pretty easy to get at most hardware store and come in HSS too. after a little sharpening they work fine for small diameter parting. if you were to add a way to suppport the blade or make it wider you could use it for wider parting also. they cost about $10 for a pack of five.

MSC (a major dupplier of machine tool stufdf) has a lot, seems like they sell for $1.65 each:
If you want to buy locally, look under "machinist supplies" or "metalworking" in the Yellow pages.
