Growing up in a family of woodworkers has given me a rounded knowledge and love of woodworking. Recently, I shared my turning experiences with my grand dad who has been able to build anything he ever wanted as long as I can remember. He was so interested in the bowls I had turned, he went out and purchased a bowl lathe 1 week later. Since he owns a nice size farm, wood isn't a problem and I generally get some of whatever he decided to take down.
2 months later, he's cut down wild cherry, red oak, western cedar, hickory, and there are probably others I've not even seen. He also cut down mamaw's favorite hummingbird tree, the mimosa in the front yard (horrible trees but I was totally shocked at the grain and figure he found in the wood). Grand dad is a blast to be around and so knowledgable about wood that I am always learning something, but I'm a little afraid of what I"ve started.D.
