Mgurure - where does it come from?

Mgurure is from central east Africa, sometimes confused with ironwood . The little else I know about it is that it is often used for african or exotic european musical instruments,as it is extremely tight grained and "holds a note" very well. It is a very slow drying wood and can be finished to a superb result. Bowl blanks are available from specialist importers and although I have not had the good fortune to have worked it is said to be cruel on a fine edge,so keep your grindstone going. A very dark honey colour heartwood with yellowish cream sapwood, very similar to English Yew. I hope this helps .
