Need some grinder advice (wwodcraft 2-speed)

Hi,

I've just bought a grinder to go with my wife's new Delta midi lathe. The grinder I got was the 2-speed model from woodcraft. I bolted it to a piece of plywood, but when its on, it seems to osscilate slightly.

Is this normal? You can hear an oscillation, and if the plywood base isn't clamped to the table, it moves in a small, slow circle.

Does this suggest that the grinder is well out of balance? Should I take it back.

Thanks for your advice,

J.

It is probably not the grinder -- but the wheels. They are never balanced properly from the factory. Also, it is likely that they are not round from the factory.

You need to dress a new wheel to get it as round as possible. Then it may or may not be in balance. The solution to getting it properly balanced is to buy the balancing kit from Oneway --

That will make it purr like a kitten.

If you really suspect the grinder, remove both wheels and run it. That should help you isolate any problem if there is one.
