I saw this and laughed. I wonder how many times I have been in the group of guys this observer is talking about. It kind of shows that either you get this stuff or not.

I know that I personally have a large crate full of little odds and ends that are "too valuable" to throw away. Any little piece can be used for something, somewhere.... at least that is what I tell myself (and of course my significant other). Some of those little pieces of curly this or that, and rare African whatever have been in the crate so long I forgot what I made out of the original pieces! Anyway....

Hi Robert

Thanks for that one, had a laugh too, and no I haven't got a box full of exotics, main reason none of my boxes would be big enough, ha, and imagine trying to dig out just that special right for the job little piece of wood out of the bottom of the box, nightmare.

Standing in front of my bandsaw, back over my left shoulder is where the useable special cutoffs are :o))

Oh yes there are a few of these real precious special rare pieces of treasured wood, almost to good to be used for anything in that drawer under my bench, almost forgot about them.

Have fun and take care Leo Van Der Loo

One of our guest turners comes to the meetings with his wife and his box of "stuff". He digs through there like a kid at Christmas when he is looking for a piece of pen blank, and old ripping, or anything else he can find to make a finial. Or a button. Or a cabuchon. Or anything else for that matter. And if it turns out really well, that is only positive reinforcement as to why he must carry his box of "useable special cutoffs".

Thanks Leo, now I have a great name for my box of odds and ends when I am asked!

Robert

Timber (the two stores in this article) can be a really, really bad place. Their machinery store has a ton of consignment tools as well as new tools. Bad, bad I say!

Gary (glad it's 30 miles away)
