Patterned segments

Hello,

How do you guys make those geometric wood designs, like the spiral polychromatic, or those intricate designs with zillions of little pieces of wood ? Is there some kind of cutting jig that you use on a band saw ? Do you cut multiple pieces at once to get perfect fit ? Where do I look for equipment ? Or is this something that is built in the shop ?

Thanks,

Keith

Keith, You will need to draw out what you want to make or use segmented software to help you. Little pieces can be done on a sanding jig. Go to these web sites and check out the information and links. They will lead you into the right direction. GT

Also, if you are interested to learning how to do this kind of turning, there is a book out there written by William Smith, titled Segmented Wood Turning. He will get you started and once you start this type turning, you will push everything else to the side. It is a wonderful and fascinating hobby.
