Projects for turning squares

There seems to be alot of great turning squares in 1.5" to 2" square by 6" and longer availble through stores and ebay. I want to turn this wood but don't know what to make besides pens. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jay

Small lidded boxes and goblets also come to mind. You'd also use such blanks for knobs on larger projects:

You can glue them together for bowl blanks, including striped bowl blanks (contrasting woods).

Hi DJ

Those look like fun projects, especially the 3 Bell project, thanks for putting it up for us.

I got Alan Lacer's DVD "Son of Skew" for Christmas. Just got done watching him make a letter opener, bottle stoppers, door stops, duck calls, fishing lures, and more - all from pieces you described.

Small boxes. If you look in the "gallery" section of many woodturning reference books, you'll notice a lot of fancy boxes. Take a look at the sizes of the boxes and you'll find that many of them are actually quite small.
