Tool Sharpening

Hi group, I've got a chance to purchase a new Craftsman Wet and Dry Sharpener 21701 for a very good price. Would it be any good for doing the final sharpening on lathe tools with a jig? Thanks, Jim

Not really. Except for your spindle gouges, used on a tredle lathe, you really do not benefit from having razor sharp tools.

The one possible exception would be your skews. But even they do not NEED to be razor sharp. Sharp, but not sharp enough to shave with.

disagree, partly with above - when you are working with rotten wood and there is lots of tear out, razor sharp really helps. But for "good wood", Deb is right - it's not all that important, really sharp is just fine, scary sharp is overkill
