Did another deodor cedar turned lidded box (can't seem to stop making these things). Made five candidate finials for it and have posted them to alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking - same subject line as this message.
May do a trembleur type option as well - ball type bottom and droplet type top. Your preference - and why?

Charlie, I'm for D with C as second. More classical, less "dumpy", has better sweep between elements. Could argue, I guess, that it's a bit large for the box. B too straight, A too squat, E too busy.

Consider starting with a machinist's center drill to keep the entering point from being diverted by hard end grain.
ps. Tom. it's not PC to separate drill bits by grades or 'pass-fail' these days. Too demeaning for the 'F' bit's.

Since the piece is for my chiropractor I did an "F" finial - suggested by a buddy after seeing "E".
"Why not make one that looks like vertabrae? It is for a chiropractor right?"

Instead of getting two or three pieces out of a logette, I think next time I'll go for one, less squat, tall and a bit more graceful box.
