What Happened??????

I have been absent from this group for some time. Imagine my suprise when I returned and found no one home. I remember about 1.5 yrs ago that there would be at least 50 new posts per day. Did the regular posters (Daryl F. etc) go somewhere else or is there a problem on my end w/ my ISP?

I think a lot of folks are just now thawing out and getting on with spring projects. I is hard to stay in on the computer when it is time to plant my garden, grab some turning wood before the scheduled spring brush collection in my neighborhood, etc.

And there are a lot of other places to play, too. There are lot of other forums and websites that cater to turners, so they all have smaller amounts of traffic rather than the large amounts like this one used to enjoy.

Come on back. Darrell's site is still up (redesigned with all manner if instruction and examples), so is Leo's, and Fred Holder is with us again. There are newer posters here that have some great sites like "Bill in Detroit" and "cad". And for a lot of technical information, put on a pot of coffee and go to the website of "charlie b" and the long promised, newly finished, and quite excellent site of Steve Russell.

Jump in!

Hi Nic

Where have you been all this time ?? Yes we lost a few regular posters, so there's room for YOU to fill in now ;-))) There are a few, who post a lot less than before, but still do on occasion. Also there are ongoing forces trying to get us on their "for profit" sites, with all the advertising etc., so the group gets divided up. And of course we do not have a good and easy way to put up pictures, that's been a handicap all along.

Whatever, good to hear from you again, " Take off your coat and stay a while"

Have fun and take care Leo Van Dert Loo

In layman's terms, your ISP sucks. Depending on their upstream feed you may or may not get all the posts. I'm in the same boat, but it's not as yours. There are times though (especially with alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking) where I'll see replies but never the original...

The number of new posts may not be a good measure of the value of this group.

The search feature will give you past posts of answers to questions. I had several rough oak bowls crack as they recently dried and found several answers to my questions were already in the archives. Rather than publicly 'admit' I did not do it right, I used search and found several valuable posts. It must be like men being willing to look at maps rather than ask for directions:)
