"Where the girls are"

Many well known turners have contributed to rcw in the past and many continue to contribute. Slobs like me tilt the percentages, but it seems that the percentage of successful high profile female turners is much higher than that for male turners. Ruth Niles, Cindi Drozda, Andi Wolfe, Molly Winton (and my short term memory defect makes me forget others who will make me blush later) have all been active participants. We are very proud of them and wish each much continued success, but we do miss their perceptive balance and good advice. I hope they will stop by when time permits. So say we all.

Well Arch there have been a lot of good male turners who did post here often that simply quit, some because of attacks by others. And I suppose some because they became too busy. Steve Russell is a good example of getting too busy. I don't know if that is why the girls have left, but I know that at least three of them have migrated to the WoodCentral message board where they can post photos of their work and see photos of others work. There seems to be less of the attacking tactics on that group also. For one thing it is a monitored message board and people who attack others would be quickly deleted or maybe even blocked from the board. I know for sure that Ruth, Andi, and Molly post messages on WoodCentral from time to time. Molly is a frequent poster there. Cindi may have simply gotten too busy.

Many, many, old time posters, in all newsgroups, have moved to Web-Forums. Partly because of the issues Fred talks about, partly because web forums are more convenient to them and partly because many ISPs no longer provide Usenet and people have to look hard for Usenet access (or are complete BOZO's and think that Google does it)
