Instead of mettler scales, will digital postage scales work for weighing wood when drying it in a microwave?

They will work until you turn on the microwave. Then they will never work again.

They will weight the wood accurately - just make sure you have one that has a suitable sized platform to set the piece on. And make sure that the scales can handle the amount of weight. Many of them are limited to 2 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb or 20 lb max limits depending on the scale. The one I have has a 20 lb limit. You can also buy digital scales that are not postal scales yet have similar increments. It all depends on the features.

Dieters' scales are pretty good.

A limit of three to five pounds, unless you've got a hell of a microwave, should do you.
