6X6 pics

does anyone have any pics of what they did w/ the 6x6? I just am wondering what they look like. I'm in charge of a 6X6 donation project for someone in my Stitch N Bitch group and wondering how to put the sq's together. It seems that not everyone knows how to measure 6 inches as most of the sq's are odd sizes.

My received 6x6 squares are not all the same size either, and to be honest neithere are the ones I mailed out, After doing a lot of frogging in the beginning, I have given up on getting it the right size. I now try to get it as close as possible and that is that.

I will try to make all the squares I have recieved the same size and most likely will make some neutral ones with every ones names on it, to fit in here and there to pull it all together. I will lay all of them out on the floor and start designing with it. Grab some different colours of knitting yarn of the shelf and add these here and there and see what I come up with. I will make a lay out on paper of the end result and work with that.

I used to be in an 8x8 square exchange as well as the 6x6. I added on to the 6x6 squares and have started a friendship afghan. I'm still not finished joining squares, but have enough to cuddle under. I used black yarn as a co-ordinating yarn for putting the squares together. Other people just join the squares directly to each other. It's just a matter of what suits your fancy.

I'll provide the links to two different afghans - the friendship afghan which is mine, along with another one that was made by my local knitting group as a comfort afghan for someone whose child passed away.

I also found that a lot of people had problems making either size to the correct measurements.

Here's the friendship afghan:

Hi Shelagh,

What beautiful afghans and I know the comfort one meant a lot to the receiver.

Yes it did. A bunch of us knitted the squares (8"), 3 of us joined them up into strips, I finished the final joining as well as crocheting a simple border to pull it all together. The day we presented it to Carrie, there were tears all around, but she was very grateful and mentions it often.

Shelagh, I love your 6x6 solution, using the black pulled it very nicely together. That is more or less what I have in mind
