any ham radio operators ?

Hello Friends,

Are any of you ham radio operators or any of your family? The hobby is people that transmit and receive on short wave radio and higher frequencies.

Yes, I'm a ham radio operator. In fact, I just got back from attending Frostfest, a sort of "ham convention" about an hour away from here.

I've marked the topic OT since there was no mention in the original post about knitting or crocheting a transmitter or antenna. lol

Was there something about the hobby you want to know?

Thank you Nyssa,

I have my extra class license for a while. I was one of those that suffered and did it before the code requirement was lowered. I am KA9DVS.

I see you are and extra class also. I work mostly CW. I get on ssb once in a while. I knew the had to be more than me here, thank you. I will send you my qsl card.

Cher, CB dxing is against regulations. No contacts allowed over

50 miles away.

I hope that you're not doing that anymore. ;)

Why not go for an amateur radio Technician class license? There's no code requirement for that anymore, and the test isn't very difficult. Then you could do all kinds of fun things on several bands available to Tech class folks.

just chatting in phonetics instead of paddles lol...a lot of us went into ham but didn't get around to taking the exams due to everyone deciding to give it up and so the courses closed around us.

We did do a lot of charity fund raising though, we'd get out on the highest hill with the help of a 3,000wt burner and get calls in, which were sponsored by various business, and then those that did get back to us were given a number, and sent out alot of cards and photo's etc in return they would send us cheques that was the greatest times of our lives, we just loved it...we'd set up for a long weekend usually friday afternoon til monday morning, and teams of radio operators would take it in turns to man the ham, and dx non stop for 48hrs ... of course we'd get some wallies on there but we could blast them out..lol plus we'd be on such a low channel and band that half of them couldn't find us.

Hugz cher..
