I absolutley adore chicks and chickens. Shortly after I moved to this tiny town I bought 5 chicks (ostensibly 4 female and 1 male) and made all the mistakes new chick-reares make. Two got caught my a local stray cat (since disappeared - I wonder why) and the single male turned into a single female. They are about 6 months old now, and I'm not sure when she should start laying, and not sure when (or if) I should introduce some more day-old chicks into the brood and hope that she'll do the protecting from stray cats this time.

The biggest mistake I made was to keep them in the kitchen initially - they now think houses are for chickens, and I was constantly shooing them out of the house. I have a lovely picture of them nestled on my couch watching television.

Lee you must have got some software with your camera that will allow you to manipulate the picture file size once you off load it to your computer. I have a Canon digital camera that came with something called Zoom Browser EX and I think it's just great. You can make the files very small for internet transmission, and I quite often use that feature for making small files for other uses. I have changed a 1.4 MB pic right down to around 50 kb. I need that cuz I haven't got high speed yet.

Well.... when I got them (from a pet shop!) I asked for 1 male and 4 females... and the one he said was a male has turned out to be the only female. And vice versa.
