I want to make a chemo cap for a friend who is going in the hospital for a three-week stint of chemo. I've read that Berroco's Chinchilla yarn is wonderfully soft for chemo caps, but it must be dry cleaned. I don't want to send a hat that must be dry cleaned.
Has anyone used this yarn? Do you think it could be hand washed? Do you have other recommendations for yarns for chemo caps?

Just made some beanies for my sister's SO who's in the middle of a course of chemo. I used Rowan Calmer, a cotton/microfibre blend. It made up beautifully, with a little bit of stretch and really soft. Apparently my sister had to make him take the hat off to got to bed!! It's hand wash only on the ball band but I might try a swatch and machine wash it to see what happens. HTH Love Christine
I've made a ton of chemo caps and donated to the cancer center. I have used funfur when knitting them and they are very soft. Have received good feedback on them.
Unfortunately my sister's partner isn't a "fun fur" type. I wasn't even sure he's wear a beanie at all, but the soft cotton has been very popular, as have a couple of beanies made from a very soft acrylic/wool blend so I'm really pleased about that. His latest scans at the end of his course of chemo appear positive, so the next step may be bone marrow stuff, so the hats may get more wear yet Love Christine
I wish him well, Christine! I have a friend here in town who went through all that... 13 years ago... the year after my cervical cancer and surgery to remove it all. She is doing so well now that you'd never know she had ever had anything wrong with her at all. :o)
