Yes, it's Bank Holiday on Monday here in England. It's going to be a very busy weekend on the roads so we hope to go to a son's in Wiltshire on Thursday and return on Tuesday.

He's Royal Air Force so we want to see him before he's sent to the Middle East.

We attended a son's Silver Wedding party last month ...

Our (large) family only gets together at funerals and anniversary parties. I'm looking forward to our Golden in a couple of years. If we die before that we've instructed that everybody comes together and has a party and, after that, a free-for-all.

It should be memorable :-)

I'm sorry, I don't know why I said Middle East, he's going to the Falklands again.

He *was* training for Afghanistan, he was due to go in May but within days of the due date his boss told him that he'd be going to High Wycombe instead. That's in the next county to his family home.

Of course we all had mixed feelings about it, our relief was at the expense of some other parents' son, wife's husband and children's father. It's not easy having such thoughts. It makes one feel guilty, Nathan joined up decades ago knowing that he might be asked to serve in a wartime situation and wouldn't want to dodge it. In a way he'd rather have gone, he'd have been working with planes which is why he joined as a 17 year old. Now he's responsible for logistics and while it's a responsible task he hates desk work, being immensely practical like all the Fishers.

I hope your son-in-law stays safe and I'm sure that your family will support your daughter, I think she'll need it. Although we hear of what's going on this is the closest I've come to knowing someone who's actually going to be in that combat zone. You're in my thoughts,

Our USAF sil is preparing to leave for a year in Korea. DD and the kids will remain on the base in the UK.
