Google sends a digest for RCTY

Jun 12, 2005 9 Replies

I don't know if this is something new to Google, or just something new to me - Google sends me an email digest of our posts.

I just happened to find out about it bc my son accidentally deleted all my cookies, and my RCTY settings were all messed up at Google, and in trying to fix them, I found a place where you could have Google send RCTY in email digests.

I just finished reading my first digest, and it was all new posts. It definitely was much easier reading the digest than going to the Google website to read them.

I am on AOL, and was spoiled by the way they provided the newsgroups for us. While this is nowhere near as good as AOL was, this is a pretty good second.

Bye for now,

Rusty

Hi Rusty,

OK, tell me where to get to that setting, as I would like to try it again.

Nora

Nora, when you're looking at all the posts, before you start reading them, at the top of the page, there is a place above the messages "Unsubscribe or Change Membership" - click on that link and you'll get a screen where you can choose to have the digest sent, or an abridged version sent. I didn't like the sound of the abridged version, so I chose the 'Digest Email'.

Hi Rusty,

Just went in and changed it, will keep you posted if I like it or not.

HELP!!!! I can't see any thing about "Unsubscribe or Change Membership" on my rcty page....I read it via cox.net in my outlook express mail.....I'd like to have digest mailed to me......can you help?????

Thanks, Maggie, madly knitting in the Arizona desert

Hi Maggie,

I don't think outlook express gives you that option. It's up at the header in google. Maybe you can check the groups in google and find it there and just try it to see if you like it. I know a lot of people aren't happy with the groups through google, but they are improving. It will never be as good as AOL though.

Nora

PS. One of our local radio hosts is doing a five day trip and we have to know where he is every day in order to win a trip. This morning he was in Tuscon and he said it was better there then in upstate NY, the big difference, we have a very high humidity and you are nice and dry. Lucky you.

Hugs,

Nora

I'm one of the people who doesn't like the newsgroups through google. I found that I could *read* the newsgroups (although I missed a heck of a lot of the messages), but I couldn't *post* from there... of course that's likely just me... so I used to send my messages through Norma to all of you. I like reading and posting my newsgroups through Outlook Express. The

*only* thing that bugs me about this is once in a while a box comes up telling me that I can't read or post anything because there are TOO MANY people connecting to the newsgroups through the same server. Oh well... I just go away and do other things and check back later (or the next day) and am able to get on then. :o)

Well, just as I finished typing the above note and hit "send" the box with the notice came up. LOL I went out to the kitchen to check on something for supper and came back to check here before peeling potatoes, and here is the note I sent just as it shut off. You gotta love computers! LOL

Hi Everyone,

I've read the first two digests and will try it again for another day. It's ok, but I would have to either print it out or make a note of what ones I want to reply to, while on here I can do it as I go along and I do love to reply. LOL

Hugs,

Nora

no............ *really*?????? LOL! Noreen
