Help needed

Okay, so I decided I would agree to make some ponchos for some people who admired the one I made for myself. I am going along at what looks like a swimmingly good pace when I notice that both of them have different lengths for the cables. One might be 6 rows and the next 8 and so on. I have gone too far on them to rip the whole thing out. One recipient says she does not care, but I do. Is there a way of redoing cables by ripping back just the cables? I know I can just crochet the rows back up, but just wondered about the cable at all. It is too bad that I did not see this sooner or that it was not for me, but I want it to at least look presentable. One is in Woolease and the other some form of Red Heart...Amore or TLC...In other words, neither splits badly.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Basically looking for a technique to redo the cables with a crochet hook and a tool for counting.

Hugs in advance...

Susan, I hate to say this, but I think that doing it that way would be more trouble than it is worth. I would re-do the whole thing. (Don't hate me!) Maybe someone else will have a suggestion more along the lines you want. Good luck.

If they are straight up cables you can just let down the four or six or eight stitches and use dp needles to knit them back up.

Despite Katherine's comment to the contrary, I really do want to make this look presentable and a good advertisement for my ability. I feel too, that it might just be a problem not worth solving, but on the other hand these are friends. Any ideas that push me towards accomplishing that goal are worth pursuing. Katherine, I do appreciate your candor. To the rest, thanks for giving me some moral support and to Brenda, thanks for a great explanation as Dennis said. I can't wait to try it, now.

You only need to undo half the cable, if you are careful making it back up. I did that one time on socks, only it was I had reversed the cable for half of them.

Good luck with it, Susan. I just felt that it would be more work to fix the problem than to re-do the poncho. Let us know how it turns out.
