Sunday Morning rcty yarn blog

Am I the first person to write this? Where is everyone? I'm looking outside and I see a cloudy grey sky! Unusual considering this is just west of Phoenix. We actually had these little pieces of water falling from the sky last night, someone told me it was called rain......And it got down to 80F during the night! Amazing..... We've had (at last count) 31 people die from the heat in the last

11 days. Two cities here topped out at 124F (54C) more than once. Been a long hot summer. Going back to work tomorrow after an unexpectedly *extended* vacation. I had a mild heart attack. Luckily DS2 works close by and got me to the hospital faster that a wink! I'm okay, no permanent damage. Was a result of a big time stress out attack and the depletion of certain minerals in my body-maybe the result of being out in the heat too long. Real scary, hope none of you ever go through that! Had a problem with the upper heart chambers not beating properly- missing half the beats, really strange. Put me on some meds to regulate the heart rhythm which are working well. While I was home, managed to get a number of things done (no, dusting was not one of them) 2 blankets for Project Linus, a tote bag for myself, a number of afghan squares for various projects, half of a striped sock LOL -one sleeve of an aran sweater. And a knitted mouse cat toy which the cats had a great time with for 2 days then it retired into oblivion..... I also had a good time surfing some yarn sites and found some really cute patterns. Check out this sock:

look under 4th of July- the red, white & blue sock. Also have some adorable Easter type patterns (all free) for egg cozies shaped like bunnies and chicks - and a cute Easter egg baby hat!

Older sons unit shipped out, please pray for peace....... Thats about all thats new around here. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to any of you that I missed. Happy stitching! Marie and the cats watching the clouds

On 31 Jul 2005 08:41:06 -0700, " snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com" spewed forth :

I'm knitting and avoiding housework. I did most of the weekend chores yesterday, but some things must be done daily: KP, cat boxes, yard patrol, walking the dog.

The 7spi gansey I started early last week is turning into a problem child, largely due to designer (me) error. I usually make a split welt on my sweaters and this is no exception. I did the math to come up with the total sweater stitches, divided by half, cast on for one welt and then decided to use "lacy rib" from BW #1. Well, foolishly I forgot that this particular pattern takes in about half again as much as standard ribbing, so my welt is almost 4" too short now. Remedial action doesn't include frogging at this gauge (when 3" of work takes 5 days frogging is NOT an option) so I'm going to factor in the horizontal draw-in AND add the missing width from the first welt, then seam the welts together. Not an ideal solution, but functional. At any rate, I was disgusted so I put that in time out.

I started an Adult Surprise Jacket yesterday using 3-ply unspun Icelandic at 3 stitches per inch. My blood sugar was obviously low when I did the calculations for the cast-on because I came up about

200 stitches short. This became apparent to me after about the 3rd row when the thing wasn't looking big enough by half :P So I put that in time out rather than try to frog unspun yarn late at night.

This morning I started ANOTHER Adult Surprise, using standard Germantown worsted (yes, actual Germantown, somebody's ancient stash moved into my house, along with *gasp* moths, which have since been evicted or exterminated). I figured the cast-on twice and had a friend double-check me.

Late this afternoon (ie, after the sun is nearing the horizon) I'm taking my not-so-small boy to a spring-fed swimming hole. He swims well enough now that I feel confident I can toss him in and expect him to recover well enough from the temperature shock that he won't drown. Horrible mother, aren't I? *g*

Still spinning: cotton on the charkha; dog/wool on one big wheel; wool/silk on the other big wheel. Still washing Hershey lockwise, combing and dizzing off. Still trying my hand at color blending on the combs, may have to resign myself to whatever results I end up with.

Off for another cappucino.

Hi,

Here it is the middle of another hot and humd Sunday afternoon. DH didn't feel like going for a ride after brunch so we got home earlier than normal. Gee, am I glad others love housework like I do, I don't either.

I'll be working on one of the four afghans that I have going this evening, it's all according to how cool it gets which one I pick up. Sure glad I love doing granny squares as they are so quick and easy and don't rest on my legs.

Hugs,

Nora

I hope that the weather doesn't get much warmer this week as we are heading to southwestern ontario for a vacation. I know driving from Toronto for a week isn't a very long trip.

Hello!

Marie I am so sorry to hear about your heart attack but glad to know that you are mending well. Take care of yourself.

I've knitted a little today on my Christmas stocking, paid bills and went to see War of the Worlds with DH. Nearly froze to death in the theatre....we were too hot there just three weeks ago.

This last week here in San Angelo we had a little cool spell with daytime temperatures almost setting a record low on Thursday. However, we are back in the 90's now and it looks like we have some afternoon thunderstorms building up. That's okay because we always need rain.

I should go make some dressing to go with supper. I am making fried green tomatoes to go with DH's grilled sausages. It's not something we do very often (because it is *fried*) but the grocery store actually had green tomatoes. Oh well...this can be our bad-for-us meal for the week.

Y'all have a great one! BonnieBlue

Dear Marie,

I am so sorry to hear of your heart attack. I hope you are recovering well and that you will not have any further problems. Stress and heat are just horrible. Can really take their toll. Please stay in the air conditioning.

I thought the heat in Florida was bad, but over 100 degrees F. is totally unbearable! You cannot take it for long. I hope your heat wave breaks.

Did anyone hear of the Scouts that were overtaken by the heat in Virginia? It seems that a lot of the country is having heat problems.

After pulling an early shift, having to stay overtime, coming home to my kids AND their friends, I have to say that no crocheting will take place today. I sent DS and DH out to KFC for our dinner.

Diane PS AMy gets cast off tomorrow, Yeah!

Marie, I am glad you are feeling better and hope you continue to do so!

I have spent most of the day organising sewing supplies - threads and notions, mostly. It's a tedious job but I think it will make finding things a lot easier. I've been meaning to do it for years. Now to sit down and do a little crochet.......

Marie & the Cats,

I am glad to hear from you.

I know the heart surgery thing. I had a triple bypass. I am fine with that, as long as the other problems stay at bay. :)

Please keep in touch.

Love and God bless, Dennis & Gail

Marie, I send you good wishes for a complete recovery from your heart attack. You seem to have a positive attitude which I think is beneficial. I can only offer my sympathy for anyone suffering from the heat and hope there is relief soon.

I missed the entire Sunday! It was darkish here and we vegged out; ate at a Mexican restaurant without really remembering what we had, and knit a lot under an Ott lite ! It was only 70 + degrees here yesterday which is a miracle since we had an index of 115 the week before. What a relief. It reminded me a lot of the winter light where you need light all day to accomplish something. I did not touch the kitchen until this morning when I did the weekend dishes mounding in the sink. What a nice day!

Beinchat, I feel the heat from here !!! 124f Whew!! Where I lived as a child it regularly went to 120 but 124 seems just too much to bear. We, of course, are in themiddle of winter and it has been one of the warmest winters for many years and we are being told that we can expect a very hot summer - think I will try and find somewhere to hide ! God Bless Gwen

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, I'm feeling a lot better now. Luckily I didn't get any permenet damage, I was able to get to the hospital in time before my heart spazzed out big time. And while I was home I was able to get plenty of work done on my projects. Marie and the cats

I missed those earlier posts, and here we are August partners. I'm so glad you got to the hospital so fast and that all is well. It just took me 3 days to mow my lawn, since I am trying to avoid heat stroke, but I think I probably had a complete exchange of bodily fluids at least 10 times. Cheers and cares, Kira
