Sunday morning

It looks like another clear cool day here: forecast high for the afternoon is mid-70s, there's not a cloud in the sky and breezes are coming from the north. The house is opened up and I'm attempting to evict dust bunnies and other lurkers in corners.

I made waffles this morning for the upcoming week's breakfasts and decided during the baking of the waffles that I probably need a new nonstick waffle iron: mine keeps eating the middles out of the waffles even if I use cooking spray :\

I have a dubbelmussa drying on the screen, and green coffee weighed for roasting.

Last night I increased to 576 on my Pi shawl, so I'm about 1/3 finished with it: I'm looking forward now to 96 lace rounds, after which the shawl should be large enough and I can finish it off. Hopefully I'll have it finished and blocked by Thursday as it is a gift for a friend I'll see that day then not again for an indeterminate time. An acquaintance is going to call me later today so I can drop by her place to look at some hand-turned shawl pins for this Pi shawl.

It's Monday morning here for me and I'm feeling very sorry for myself

- I have a raging cold (i've got a fever and it's supposed to be 27 degrees C (80 degrees F) here today - yuck!). I have to be at work 'cos I'm due to lecture this afternoon. I was so crook yesterday I couldn't even knit (that's saying something). I am most displeased and am very jealous of your day Wooly.

I was really hoping to add some more patterns to my site over the weekend too - but alas no. :(

If I can stay upright and coherent I'll consider this day successful. :)

Sounds loverly. Here, it's minus 8 Celcius, with a windchill of minus 18, winds of 50 kph, and it's bloody awful. I'll just bet you miss Minnesota, eh? I'm not sure yet if DH & I will be cutting any wood for the stove or not. Probably not, and I'm almost out.

Okay, I'll bite - what's a dubbelmussa?

Enjoy your warm weather, and know this - I'm JEALOUS!!!

Illinois, and no I don't miss it a bit.

I had a wood-fired stove. I'd put on beer and steak for anybody in the neighborhood who would come help. I'd rent a hydraulic splitter for the day and put by enough wood for the entire season, with enough over to send home with whomever worked for it. It helped that I knew two arborists who brought me free wood...

There's a photo of an unfolded one on this page.

happens to be Meg Swanson's standard pattern too, now that I lookat it.

You tuck the plain end inside the fancy end with the tassel, then fold the brim back up to put four layers over your ears/forehead/back of head. They're wicked warm and I'm surprised you don't have several.

Well, in August when I've had another stretch of 100F+ days you can chortle at my misery. I think I'd rather deal with cold - I can always put on another layer but there's a limit to how much I can take off to stay cool...

Sorry to hear about hte cold. Either my allergies or whipping my butt or I'm on the way to a sinus infection. I don't feel as if I'm coming down with a cold and I haven't - to my knowledge - been near anyone who has a cold so I'm hoping it's *merely* a sinus infection :P

Wooly,

I am still working on projects for "Ava". Tammy, Ava, and Max are coming over Tuesday for Gail's birthday. Her birthday is today.

I am still winding down from the 9 hour drive to Arkansas for my uncle's funeral, I went by my self. Gail was not happy with me but all went well. I spent 2 night with my sister in Atoka, TN.

I am making pink socks for Ava in a cotton, wool blend, her favorite color.

I hope you post a picture, I will if I remember.

Hugs & God bless, Dennis & Gail

Home made waffles and fresh roasted coffee? I'll bet you're house smelled fantastic this morning!

I knitted this morning, did a little antique hunting, (unsuccessful) and cooked this afternoon. Eggplant parmesan. Dinner in 20 minutes, then baths for boys, and maybe a little reading for Mom.

Hope everyone had or is having a great day.

Hmm, I don't know which I'd choose if given the option. neither is fun. Let's hope it's nothing much (or can at least be medicated away easily).

Survived the day hopped up on enough drugs to kill a small donkey. May their effects last long enough to do some knitting or spinning tonight. :)

I'd never heard of them before..... I usually jam a toque on my head (probably a shorter version of your hat). I have one which is double knit - then turn up a brim, so I guess it is 4 layers. Anyway, it does the job.

I'll have to try knitting a dubbelmussa ;>)

The stranded patterns on the outside and the brim make it more like six layers over the ears, right?

I guess that depends on how you want to concatenate it.

Two layers consisting of two strands = four layers

I make my liners from a single strand

So call it five?

I was thinking of the way Meg Swansen carried the stranded patterning over to the inside just far enough so that the rolled up brim had patterns on the side that showed when it was turned up again. That made the brim two-stranded on every layer, so 2+2+2+2 for the brim area. The crown of the hat would have 2 (stranded exterior) +

1 (interior). So 3 layers for the head, 8 layers for the ears.
