P.S. I think maybe the article was by Elizabeth Zimmerman, who used to have a regular column in that magazine. (Was it called Knitters Magazine or something like that?) It always had lots of good articles and I'm sorry no longer have my old copies. Too many moves, and the final one transoceanic; somewhere along the way I lost most of them, and the rest I lost on the last move.

Thanks so much for the links. None of them is the pattern I was looking for; actually the first two links are identical.

However, I tried narrowing down the google search a bit using "short rows" as a search term, and I found one link that referred to the "Elizabeth Zimmerman heart patch", which is certainly a reference to the pattern I wanted. However, the site mentioned the pattern and that it was made using short rows, but then went on to talk about a heart "inspired" by EZ, made by decreasing instead of short rows.

I would really like to find a source for the original pattern, if possible.

It looks really cute, and I'm thinking of making it for DD1's friend's little girl. It looks like you have your answer, Barbara, but let me add my congratulations. My "little girl" now has three little girls of her own. Being a grandmother is a real joy - I have to plan to have time with them as they live far away, but it is really special. Have fun making little girl things.

I've been thinking about that, since my little granddaughter will live an ocean and then some away. My daughter teaches at Indiana University and the trip is long and tedious, and often quite expensive as well. I keep hoping she'll find a job on the east coast of the US, but I think that won't happen soon.

It made a really sweet little hat. I made it in very dark red. I attached a rectangle along the edges of the heart, and made Idiot Cord ties.
