Knit Out Night

Good evening everyone

I've just returned from my second Knit Out Night at my LYS. What a great time! Lots of chit chat, people knitting and crocheting. My 7yo DD came and there was another young lady her age there as well, both crocheting along on their projects. There was also a sale on yarn but I restrained myself and bought up the last of a colour of Shetland Chunky for a hooded sweater for DS (plus, probably, a hat and more socks), but none of the fancy lovely things I was coveting. Got some opinions on a project I was thinking about, and someone asked me to crochet her socks! Also found out there's a niche for handknits (and hand-crochets?? that a word?). Might revive my thoughts of hiring a table at a craft fair one of these days.

What a lot of support and help you can get there.....does anyone else have something similar they go to?

That sounds like a very nice outing to go to. I haven't heard of anything like that around here... of course, that isn't to say that there isn't one around... I just haven't heard about it. Glad you and your little girl had a good time! :o)

Oh, I hate you! ACtually, this year I have started going to Les Tricoteurs, which is a Francophone knitting group. It is fun, but since we don not have a yarn shop, we bring in yarn we have bought elsewhere.

I happened upon a notice for a knitting group forming in Winnipeg 2 or 3 years ago (bad memory) on the Knitlist and have been going ever since.

I love it because it meets all year round (no summer break). We have been very fortunate that after some trial & error, we found a home at McNally Robinson Booksellers where we meet every 3rd Tuesday except in December. They don't charge us for the space and provide us with chairs. Of course, I'm sure it doesn't hurt that some of us buy magazines and books fairly often.

We also meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the Starbucks in Chapters near Polo Park in Winnipeg. This meeting is much more informal, and to justify our existence there, we all buy at least a coffee and some also get a treat to nibble on. We meet at both places from 7 - 9 pm and it's very enjoyable.

Sometimes at the Tuesday meetings we have something instructional, like 3 needle bind-off, sock heels, and like that. We've had a couple of things on a Saturday - needle felting, introduction to spinning, visiting an alpaca farm last summer. We pretty much always have a "show & tell", which can be tons of fun. We have done squares, hats, mitts & scarves for charity.

I used to also attend a rural knitting group on Fridays, but found that the one hour drive each way was just too much in the winter, and they didn't meet in July & August. Then when the gas prices went through the roof, that put an end to that adventure. ;>(

Gee, Katherine, why not tell me how you really feel? :)

Not everyone had yarn with them from that store; the owner didn't seem to mind, especially as most of us bought some more on the way out.

I only heard about it by fluke; when I was in the store last summer with Katherine, I signed up for an email newsletter. The first message I got was in December for that month's knit-out. It's apparently been on the go a while.

My little girl had a wonderful time....she'd bust my bank account in there if I let her!

Upstairs, front of the house. In the same room where she has Pixie yarn; a long couch in front of the window, and chairs in front of the fireplace. People also on the floor :)

Remember? :) Michelle

AH, yes, I do. What a perfect spot! BTW, did I ever show you the picture of the sweater and hat that I did for Jesika from the Pixie yarn? It is in my Knitting 2005 album. Hit the link below and go from there.

What are you doing on the computer this early on a Saturday? I am here because we are catering a brunch this morning, and I have to get my supplies over to the Salvation Army basement in a few minutes.

This ain't early, darlin', we're a 1/2 hour ahead of you. Well, it's almost 10pm now, but I was up at 7 this morning to watch 'Quilt in a Day'. Good thing, too; found out how to apply the binding to the quilt I'm making for DS for his birthday.

Tell me about it! A friend of mine was here today so the children made things; that child made two rings and two bracelets out of my wire and beads that I crochet with (she was only stringing them, though). The other girls made 1/2 a bracelet each in the same time.

Now *that* is dedication! Getting up at 7 to watch a TV show. Do you not do the VCR thing in Newfoundland?

Again, tell me about it! :)

This new venture of making things to sell has sparked her; she wants to make some flexible wire and bead rings and sell them as designs under "Bluebird Sings".

Saw in another thread that you've got a stomach bug; hope you're feeling better.

TWAP! Saucy thing! I would've been up anyway; the cat was sitting

*right* outside my bedroom door; he would've started scratching within a few minutes. He's used to eating early; during the week we're up before 7.

Odd, you know. Our critters don't often wake us up. In fact, Wooly usually hops into our bed before we get up, and then stays there until noon - as long as a person is with her.
