Knitting Oops ?

Oh please, lots of details! You can skip one or two, but I think KF has some lovely patterns, and I'd love to know what happened at the workshop.

LOL I did that once, with a baby sweater, knitted in a yarn as fine as gossamer. Sigh!

Mirjam, I had to re-read your post to find out what it was that everyone else found so funny, until I *finally* saw that you had two sleeves on the same side. So you were going for a Picasso Sweater then, right? LOL

I have to respond to this one too!! I can be SUCH an idiot at times! I had knitted my first 2 sweaters and I had joined the Army. I had gone back to Kmart and found this beautiful Olive Green yarn. I wasn't leaving for another 3 monthes so I had time to knit away. I discovered the basketweave stitch from a knitting stitches book and REALLY liked how it turned out in the swatch. So I took the same pattern I had used for the previous 2 sweaters and off I went with it. Well, as you can probably guess, it just kept getting bigger and bigger. It was the same amount of stitches too!! I finished the front and it was HUGE. I was kind of at a loss as to what to do with it. Should I continue and make the rest or what? I was debating that and my oldest brother showed up. He is 6'7. I kind of looked at him and asked him what size he was. He went "Oh great! You go and join the Army and we all get stuck wearing the same green here!" I had never thought of that. I did finish the sweater and fitted him good. The other Oops I had was when I was knitting a baby blanket for my son. I had done a lot of sweaters up to this point so I thought that I would tackle this. I designed the pattern and was using up scrap yarn also. I had gotten it more than half way done when my Aunt Birdie came by and showed me some TERRIBLE mistakes I had made. I had never learned how to carry over yarn or twist it on the back when you carry it over, so there were HUGE big gaps in it. There really was no way to fix them and it was not going to work for a baby at all with all the gaps and holes. It is STILL after

Hmmmm, the mistakes couldn't have been too awful if you didn't notice them before your aunt came along.

Mirjam, that sounds easier than doing it all over ! But I've already frogged half of it, the bottom half. I could stop now and the long part could be a shawl. LOL

OOOH AUD ,, sorry abouit the wine spilled .... Doing each part alone and sew it up ,,,, ages since i did that ,i have long ago started knitting it all downwards , start at the neck , divide with markers and Increase ....than divide into body and sleeves parts ,, No Sewing ,,,, no mix up ,,,, have a nice time Aud mirjam

LIZ ,, sorry ,but i laughed ALOUD ,,,, I must tell you it once happened to pupil of mine , and she got so nasty about and guees whom she blamed ???? But refused to rip it , thus i told her to sew it up as is and embroider all over it ,, she than told all it was a CREATIVE sweater ... good for her mirjam

Fairwinner if it still on the needles , take it NOW and make into a Modern Free form work ,, finnish it and EMbroider or crochet into all the holes , take too long hanging threads and embroider over them , by this stablizing them ,,,, now use this as A material for a vest [very trendy] or fold up and make into a trendy bag ,,,,, mirjam

Thank you Gemini ,,, A picasso sweater ,,,, hummm why didn`t i think of this name ,,,,,i could have than hung it on the wall and show it off instead of ripping it .... By the way , had to collect something from a mall , peeped in to shop with sweaters ,, they Hung them with clothes hanger going through neck and one sleeve ,, maybe HIP , but very bad for knits .... mirjam

Or just carefully sew the holes together and finish knitting it, now that you know how. It is obviously too late to be a baby blanket for the first baby, but it could be saved for a new baby or it could be a wonderful wall hanging or lap robe for an adult.
