Thanks, Katherine. I've been thinking about making Fair Isle socks--after all, I'll still have leftovers from the pair I'm working on now--but maybe they would be too warm.

Heck, I rode the MTD almost exclusively until 1990. I used to wear two pairs of socks in my boots and my feet still froze if the busses were running late for any reason.

What wonderful work! I especially loved the folk sweater you make for your daughter. I also admire your charting ability. Attempting to chart the Hot Wheels logo for my grandson and am failing miserably. (Over and over, hopefully I'm failing a little better each time!)

Oh, for heavens' sakes--small world! And normally you'd be exactly right. Don't I have at least 3 mohair sweaters and several sets of silk long johns? This year, however, has been quite abnormal. The coldest and snowiest part was long ago, in December, before it was even officially winter. January and February were exceptionally warm, and only 1.7 inches of snow, and I guess my thnking was colored by that. OK, FI socks are on the agenda.

The key to charting is to be sure the rectangles in your chart match your gauge--you can't do it on square graph paper. Figure your gauge first, then get Knitter's Graph Paper that matches it, and do your charting on that (make several photocopies of the blank page). When I did that sweater, before the Web, I found pages to photocopy in a sweater design book. I expect you could find them on the internet now, but I haven't tried. Good luck!

This was an abnormally warm winter for everybody except those poor Right Coasters who are still trying to find their cars.

I moved to Austin in December of 1995. The day I was loading up the UhaulIt and the cats the air temp was 4F, the wind was screaming down out of Minnesota and points north for a wind chill factor of about

-40f, and I had to send my not-yet-husband back into the house repeatedly because he didn't fear the cold. Stupid man ended up with frostbitten ears but I married him despite it.

In the spring of 1997 I packed up most of my boughten wool sweaters and sent them back home to folks I knew could use them. I kept all the handknit ones and get to rotate them on an annual basis :D

In my Monday night knitting group there are three of us from C-U. I'm sure there are more of us here than I know - seems like a lot of UI grads come here for grad school and never manage to leave.

BTW, if you still have the leftover magenta mohair from your Big Muppet Sweater I'll be happy to pay postage for it. I carp mightily while I'm knitting with brushed mohair but I sure do like the finished products!

There are actually two "Muppet" mohairs--the one on the Knitted Objects page is a dark burnt orange (Go Illini!); the other one, not pictured is a bicolor: burgundy mohair with a navy core. Let me know what to send you and where to send it.
