micro-fiber yarns

Can anyone tell me what their experience has been using one of the micro-fiber yarns? I'm considering one for a bolero type jacket.

As a knitting teacher for a large craft store chain, many of the "beginner" patterns we're given to teach use the Lion Brand Microspun yarn, which is a sport weight micro fiber yarn. The results are very nice and VERY soft...they have a nice drape to them too. However, I would not recommend this yarn for beginners or the faint of heart. It plies very easily, and it frusterates many people.

I personally don't have a problem with it. I fix the plying issue by turning my work in the same direction each time I finish a row. This keeps the yarn more tightly wound and, in my opinion, easier to work with. If you just keep this in mind, I don't think you should have a problem. :)

The Lion Brand Microspun yarn is wonderful for dust rags the yarn attracts dust. I also make covers for dust mops instead of using the disposables.

That's a neat idea! :o) I made "duster mitts" years ago when my son was little... he thought they were great, so I let him pick one out for himself and he helped dust the house. LOL

Oh, forgot to ask... did you get the pattern online or just make one up?

And are you new? If so, welcome to the group... if not... I'm not thinking too clearly tonight anyway. ;o)

This is what I have in my file. I cannot remember where I got the pattern. I used Lion Brand Microspun yarn not the cotton.

I could never imagine parting with my dry dust mop. Those of you with hardwood floors know what I'm talking about. If you do, but you hate the waste of the disposable cloths, this pattern is for you. This dust mop cover is 100% cotton, machine washable and knits up in a little over a day. There is minimal shrinkage when washed and it stretches to mold to your mop. Finished size: folded 11" long x 5" wide Gauge: 16 st x 20 rows = 4" on #7 needles Cast on 22 Row 1: knit across Row 2: P 4, *k2, p4; repeat from * across Row 3: knit across Row 4: p1, k2, *p4, k2; repeat from * across Repeat Rows 1 through 4 until piece measures 15" long, ending with a row 4. Finishing: fold short ends over 2" with wrong sides facing. Sew together along outside edges 1/4" from the edge.

Been around a long time, just don't post often. faye
