Need for Speed?

I work slow until I learn the task and produce quality over speed.

I drive the speed limits and if the roads are snowy even slower and don't care if people behind me get pyst off.

In my imagination I replayed that scene and guess what happened? I replied to the neighbour who noticed the dust with "Oh, wait a minute, I'll just go and get a duster," came back with a duster, handed it to her and said, "Here you go! If it's bothering you, feel free to clean it up!"

LOL!

How do old ladies drive then? I'm older than you and can drive fast, I don't usually because I'm conscious of the carbon footprint of the car and petrol consumption (it's VERY expensive in Britain) but road speed isn't an indication of the driver's age, I think. Anyone CAN drive fast, it's not difficult, but not everyone can drive well - at any speed :-(

I'm sure you DO drive well though :-)

Here the city roads are usually so congested that driving fast isn't an option. Country roads are usually so winding and narrow that driving fast would be reckless. Some motorways are like carparks! You have to choose the best time to drive to get from A to B without being held up, Friday afternoon/evenings and Monday mornings are the worst, I would never choose to drive long distances then. Roll on congestion charging!

Thank goodness we can knit/sew or whatever at whatever time we please :-)

Same here. And I have had a clean licence for forty odd years, which is quite rare these days

Yes, I wonder what they did before mobiles?

It's illegal to drive while using one here but people still do it. We were once at the back of a bus in Cambridgeshire and son took a photograph of the car behind. The driver was talking into a mobile and waving BOTH hands around - i.e. not holding the steering wheel and thus not in control of the car. It's frightening.

More than. All your time and resources are taken up with three children, which means that more are no harder!

Yes ... ... the husband one stays for ever. I hope.

Our oldest was 7 when the fifth was born which, I think, made it easier in some ways. Juggling their activities was difficult though, we had to get a mini-bus to accommodate a double bass among all the sports equipment and clothing. I'd forgotten about those days ...

:-)

I went to a house which had a sign saying 'Mess Happens'. That was very polite, I thought. I thought ours would get better when the litter left but if anything it's worse. Spouse drops everything wherever he is, says it's not worth putting it away because he'll want it again :-(

Yes :-(

I'm going for an extraction this afternoon, this morning was spent shopping for a concrete mixer and delivering it to No 3 son's house, it's for communal use but he still has storage space whereas we ... well I'll leave you to finish that!

...

That's when I'd be tempted to get out the machine ... although striping does make for variation.

Better go and make some bread ...

Yes it is...not bragging...too much ;-) but I have been driving for 35 years and have a clean record....except a warning for making a California stop/rolling stop a few years ago. It helps with getting car insurance.

Times do change....I remember as a kid we had One Black and White TV with only 3 Channels.....us kids were Dads remote control and we watched what he watched.

I work on a Air Force Base and they banned cell use on the Base....only hands free is allowed...but you can still see people using them when not around the cops. Just recently has been discussion of banning the use in the cities.

My need for speed stems from my desire to KNIT MORE THINGS. I do place quality before quantity though, so I always have a lengthy queue of things I want to knit that only gets longer because I can't keep up.

And that's OK.

nickieknits spun a FINE 'yarn':

OMG, I got the vacuum cleaner out for a family member who disdainedly made a remark about my housekeeping. Being that this family member cannot operate her own vacuum cleaner due to health issues, and has a HOUSEKEEPER come IN twice a week, it didn't go over well, LOL! But did it stop her? No. So, the next time, I handed her a pair of white gloves and said, if you're going to remark, make it good. she still doesn't get it. Noreen

Mary Fisher spun a FINE 'yarn':

Actually, I've always been a very good driver, have never had a ticket, one warning at age 20 (for driving too fast, lol!) I've just gotten CAUTIOUS, and my DH thinks I'm TOO cautious. I've been driving 33 years, so you're not MUCH older than me, grin! I've gotten *spoiled* these last few years, with DH and I being down to one shared vehicle, he does 90 percent of our driving. I learned to drive in the city, but HATE city driving now and am happy to let him manuver in heavy traffic. Noreen :D

We didn't have a tv until I was 17, there was one channel, in mono of course.

It was banned in Britain years ago and re-banned recently, I don't think the earlier law was publicised enough. Doesn't make any difference though.

No 2 son is in the RAF, I'll have to ask him what the rule in the base is.

I don't think you can be too cautious.

Depends how old you were when you passed your test.

Oh, Spouse always drives the scooter, whether I'm with him or not. I don't like them. I usually drive the car (unless he's alone) because I say that if I organise a trip I should drive. Since he rarely organises anything I get to drive. He usually, but not always, drives when towing the caravan. I always drove when towing the trailer tent.

I'm happy driving in any situation. That is, I don't like being driven in ANY situation :-) Occasionally it has to happen, if I'm disabled for some reason for instance. I'm a terrible passenger though, it's no fun for him!

This reminds me of Bill Bryson's book A Small Island - in which the people in the pub basically tell him that he should have started for Cornwall for the weekend at least 2 weeks ago!

I don't have much memory of what we watched....the first that stuck in my mind was watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show

I liked their uniforms.....when I was in Basic Training in 1975 we had a visiting female Warrent Officer and I wished our uniforms looked as good I also wanted very badly to get stationed in England....but went to Iceland for a year, which was not bad at all.
