I used to live 40 miles from them, love the actual retail store, HATE their online service. I waited 3 weeks for a delivery 40 miles away in WI, but got one here in TN in 3 days.. go figure. JM2C, Noreen
It took them almost a week to get my order to me the first and only time I ordered from them online. They made sure to stuff the box full of ads for other junk I'm not interested in while shorting my order 1 skein of yarn, ordered 18 and got 17. When I reported the shortage, I held the entire yarn order up until it would be fixed to have physical proof of the shortage, and they kept giving me company line for 3 weeks about how it's in the mail, and finally a month later, I had to complain again to another dept, and only then did they finally fix it,
5 weeks of hassle and having to keep on them all for a single $3 skein I was shorted. But, they were the only ones who had the colors and quantities I needed for my project, though.
So I'm hesitant to use them again, despite all the junk mail I get crammed in my mailbox once a month from them ever since.
I live in NJ, so I figure it should take between 5 - 8 business days.
My sister gave me a gift certificate so I thought I would give them a try. Also, this is the only store that carries my favorite yarns in my favorite colors. Katheryne
I ordered a bunch of sock stuff from Herrschner's .ca, before I realized they have an outlet right in my city (or, well, the adjacent city but it's one big urban sprawl).
I had no real complaints, though it took maybe 2.5 weeks to get to me - which was only a tad surprising once I realized how close they were. The order was complete and the price was good, and as it's rare to find online suppliers who actually both ship from Canada and charge in Canadian funds, I was happy to have the resource.
I am guessing, though, as is often the case, Herrschner's Canada is a mostly different entity from the US parent. The ownership at the corporate level is the same but Canadian operations are probably independent.
By the way, in response to my own post - I stopped to check out Herrschner's outlet store here.
Definitely will stick to ordering on line, if I ever use them again anyway. The in-store stock was limited, expensive, and was mostly scrapbooking. The yarns were no better than Michaels and nary a sock ball to be seen. There was one bored teenager staffing the place and she didn't know a thing about the yarns or fabrics. She was nice enough, but admitted she was only into scrapbooking and didn't seem to have resources to even find out what I was asking about when she didn't know.
I have to admit, I'm coming to feel about my local yarn shops the way I feel about my LQS (local quilt shop) and my sewing machine dealer- it is SOOOOO worth paying the extra to get the good stuff from the folks who know the stuff. Outlet stores and online bargains are for when I get lucky and fall across exactly what I was looking for anyway, not much more.
