New to Knitting - suggestions?

Hi. I've done a lot of crochet. However, I've decided that I want to learn how to knit. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good beginner pattern, preferably something for a baby? I've got a short attention span, so baby items are perfect! LOL!

What about a little hat? You could knit it on two needles, so you wouldn't have to mess about with DPNs, and sew up the seam afterwards. And, actually, you could just knit a rectangle, seam it, and pull the top together. Check out the Lion Brand website for some simple patterns.

Good luck! Higs, Katherine

My main suggestion is to learn how to knit in the Continental style (where you hold the working yarn in your left hand and pick up each stitch with the right needle) rather than the English/American style (where you hold the working yarn in your right hand and wrap it around the needle tip for each stitch.) The Continental style is much easier if you already know how to crochet.

I know how to crochet still i am not comfortable with the Continental style ... only when using 2 colors , i use both styles ... mostly i knit in the what you call American/English and i was taught to call FRENCH style ,,, mirjam

Many crocheters do just fine knitting English style. It all depends on what the individual finds easier to do.

I suggest trying both and picking the one you're more comfortable with. But I do agree that Continental is more similar to crochet.
