Hi Jane,
I agree with Katherine, a really neat picture. Wonder if that is a knit sweater she is wearing?

I think it is, Nora. Somehow, I remember my mother wearing one like that.

\ I think it is. Such tiny needles. The photo looks posed, though. Working needles wouldn't be held like that.

Sorry Jane, I hold my needles like that. It's the only way I can knit and not have the tension so tight that I can't get my needle into the work!

I know several people who hold their needles just like that. My own hold is similar.

Do you know when it was taken? It's such a serene image, I love it!

I work in Social History and this week I was handed a new donation. It was several pieces of knitting, cotton, still on the finest knitting needles and it was lace edging. Just beautiful!!

Somthing like that would be beautiful if artfully framed, arranged with needles and all.

Yes it would but unfortunately unless things change that will not be a popular exhibition. I can only hope things change in years to come. At least I treasure such things and accession and store them carefully. Others in my profession might easily have thrown it away. I am very grateful it came into my hands and not those of others. These things are not popular these days and I fight my battle alone

Lace knitting is coming into style though. If the museum decides to eliminate it, be sure to grab it - if you can't store it, I'm sure someone here will be happy to!
I once saw something like that on eBay - it was a group of samples of fine lace knitting on the needles, apparently either a salesman's samples for how the yarn would work up or a set of examples for a school class. It went out of my price range quickly.
