OT: DD goes to state competition in Theatre

I am kind of lonely sitting here waiting for DD Susie to return from her trip to NYC. She called a short time ago and they are packed on the bus, but still touring and having one great time. She does miss me, though. Then tomorrow, after being home less than 12 hours, we leave for Tampa where she will compete at the FL Thespians Festival:The largest high school theatre festival in the world. She is following in DS footsteps as he competed there twice in about 4 categories. She will also be auditioning for theatre scholarships with two contrasting monologues. I am the lucky one here. I have been to state and national competitions with DS several times, but never with DD. This time, I am the only chaperone besides the teacher. I suppose I earned this with all the activities I have been in with the kids, but I am happy to go and see all of them perform and compete, too.

Of course I will have my knitting with me...cannot decide if I want to take just one project and get it done, or take several that are already on the needles and switch off. We will be there Wednesday through Sunday.

BTW, recently, in two plays, I have seen knitting and the women doing it were doing well. One was in the Shakespeare Festival and with my lack of knowledge of Shakespeare, I cannot tell what scene it was by name. It is two women sitting chatting about how one can make the other's husband want her. A very funny scene. The other play was Dancing at Lughnasa. In that play, three of the women make gloves for a living and the girls in the roles mostly masters level students in theatre, were all knitting quite well. (My kids were in both plays, of course.)

Thanks for letting me ramble, Hugs,

Susan

That sounds like the Merry Wives of Windsor.

Oh my, that was one of the saddest parts of the play, where the sisters who knit gloves to support the family (five sisters and their brother, who is somewhat batty) learn that a knitting factory is opening up in the town that will put them out of business, just as the oldest sister, who's a schoolteacher, gets fired from her job.
