OT - Heard from our friends

For those of you who are actual friends of Noreen, and of Wooly... I have heard from both of them.

Keeping it brief so as not to start another uprising... Noreen said that the minute she heard from Emma Crew, she replied to her immediately. At that time, she removed the photo in question, as per her request. Upon further deliberation, Noreen decided it best to remove all 'doubt', and removed 'everything'. Apparently she had a friend, who test-knitted a couple of things for her. He was the one who passed away from myelodysplasia. When he sent Noreen his picture via email, she trusted that it was his photo and didn't feel the need to question it.

Noreen says the pattern she worked out IS hers, she worked that out while her husband was undergoing daily radiation. Now, having gone to Emma's link, she agrees that her pattern and Noreen's are similar, but not the same. Noreen said "Rather than argue, I just feel it's best to not offer it anywhere at all. She wins, I am too frazzled to put up a fight. If she feels the need for 'compensation', well, being that I never sold a single version (four twenty-five, as of last increase) of that particular pattern, but DID sell 4 CD's that had it on it, I guess I could offer her the four bucks. Neither the bound book nor the e-book ever sold."

She also said (and I have blacked out her friend's name out of respect for the dead)... "As for Sarah Brad (berry? bury?), I did receive her email as well, Everything was already pulled by the time she emailed me, and I responded/replied that it had already been done. I never had those particular patterns even up at the KV, so I know that none were sold through there. I DID sell the same 4 CD's, so I guess her comp. would also be four bucks. Those pictures, and the patterns, I must admit, were supplied by

****. He informed me that he found them amongst his great-Aunt's "things". In my haste to have at least 25 patterns to offer, I admit that I never checked them out.

Everything else IS mine, as far as patterns themselves go. (Three are actually ones my mother and I worked out back in the seventies, and one I worked out with my aunt in the same time period.)". So there you have your answer from Noreen herself. Oh, and she really *is* away, but is fully aware of what's been going on in the newsgroup.

Thanks for passing on the information; I figured there had to be some sort of reasonable explanation that didn't quite fit with the comments being made earlier on. If you talk to Noreen and Wooly again, pass on my best wishes, and hope to see them again here soon.

For the record, I did not receive an email from Noreen. Considering the vagaries of the internet that may not have been her fault but if so, I didn't receive it.

Thanks for passing that on, Gem. I am very glad to hear that there is a reasonable explanation and hope this matter will be put to rest now that we have heard the other side of the story. Please give my best to both Noreen and Wooly should you be in contact with them.

What one would ordinarily do is send a first-class letter followed by a copy sent registered mail, return receipt requested. It should be possible from another country, though I don't have the details.

I don't understand what that would have to do with email though.

Email addresses are easy to spoof and messages do sometimes get lost or linger on the way. A first-class letter with a signature arrives reasonably promptly, or can be sent overnight if necessary. Registered mail takes longer, but the receipt is proof that you have made a good-faith attempt to resolve a problem directly before going to court. There's a bit more privacy, too.

Out of curiosity, what's the connection between Noreen and Better Homes and Gardens and Patons Yarns?
