OT: I *fianllly* quit smoking again!

I gave up in January this year and found that having a nicotine inhalator (think it was a Boots one) gave my hands something to do. But, yes I have put on weight, I have been eating more. Plus, three months ago I started taking steroids because of PMR, and that made matters even worse, and has unsettled my diabetes control. Having now decided I HAVE given up smoking, I am about to tackle the diet (again)

I'll not forget the time I ate a whole bag of Pontefract cakes (liquorice) to myself at one go.

It was no fun :-(

mmMMMmm licorice!!! I *love* licorice and have eaten an entire bag of licorice twists in one day... okay, I shared a couple with my fur baby too. In case anyone wonders why I didn't share with my son... he hates licorice! Now you know why I buy it! LOL

Good luck, I hope it works for you! I also hope your diabetes can be helped to be back under control again very soon.

I recently (last Tuesday at the doctor's office) found out that I've lost 3 lbs. I am very pleased... it looks like I've lost more though, but I think it's because I've lost inches. I haven't actually been *dieting*, just swimming laps in my not too large pool. Each time I go out I swim five laps on my stomach, then turn over and do five more laps on my back... then I do a sort of laying down "jumping jacks" while floating around the middle of the pool... then a few bends, bending myself in half to flip from my back to my stomach, then bending myself in half again to flip from my stomach to my back. While doing it in the water it doesn't hurt or tire me out, so it doesn't really feel like exercise at all. Water exercise is very good for everyone, but especially so for people with Fibromyalgia as we have a difficult time with our muscles.

It had an effect... not terribly drastic though, and I *was* home alone and had the bathroom totally to myself... which is why I don't eat whole bags of the stuff anymore. ;o)

Wrong again I'm afraid, liquorice is obtained from the root of the plant Glycyrrhiza glabra. It's nothing like aniseed.

A town(Pontefract) near to my city was the centre of the world's production for centuries, there is a Liquorice Trust to preserve the heritage of liquorice and many events are held each year. I've taken part in some of them.

Your urge to `correct` some of thie things i write is quite amusing. As a person with Dutch roots i used to eat Droppjes ,which are the Dutch Very black very salted Liquorice . Since i have to check every food i learnt that some liquorices [those that i eat ] include anis. mirjam

No, Mirjam, you're the one who keeps trying to put me right on things I know about.

The liquorice which you eat might well *contain* aniseed but liquorice is not the same as aniseed.

A friend had sent me a bag, knowing how much I liked it.

Do you remember the liquorice torpedoes - in coloured shells? We used to lick the red ones and paint our lips :-)

Mary As a matter of fact one doesn`t need some funny stuff only when one is down ,,,it might be that Serious work or serious events have filled one`s day , and a funny comment here or there is just a comic relief, that mature people enjoy from time to time . But i must say that, when i tried to answer YOU a polite note, to see if i can help you, In social work we always recognize people who need help by `all this Bitter sniding remarks` of the kind you make ,, thus i sent you a note and here is where my note was refused, your Above post is unrecognized , and it tellsyou by an adress called not in your life time @ You got ta be joiking ,,, i spaced the cute and Social accepted Kind and nice words ,,,,,, for all to see ,,, that is really nice of you ,,,, thank you for giving us a glimpse of your social manners. mirjam

In social work we always recognize those who call for help

Mirjam, that fake e-mail ID is for Gemini (Not Likely), not Mary. Mary's e-mail address looks quite normal to me. If you check the "properties" on one of her posts, you'll see. I'm one of the people with a fake e-mail address on Usenet simply to filter out unwanted spam e-mails that I used to get. You and some others here have my real e-mail addy if you need to contact me.
