OT: Mothers

For those who are lucky enough to still be blessed with your Mom, this is beautiful. For those who aren't, it is even more beautiful.

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And the guide said, "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning."

But the young mother was happy and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them and taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this."

Then the nights came, and the storms, and the path was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her arms, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come."

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children, "A little patience, and we are there."

So the children climbed, and as they climbed, they learned to weather the storms. And with this, she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all, unconditional love. And when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have done it without you."

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old, and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And the mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children."

And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her, and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.

And mother said, "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them."

And the children said, "You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said, "We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mother like ours is more than a memory.

She is a living presence."

Your Mother is always with you. She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She's the smell of certain foods you remember...flowers you pick and perfume that she wore. She's the cool hand on your brown when you're not feeling well...she's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.

She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep...the colors of a rainbow. She is Christmas morning. Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she is crystallized in every tear drop. A mother shows every emotion...happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow...and all the while hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life. She's the place you came from, your first home, and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy...but nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space, not even death!

Pass this on to all the mothers and daughters and sons you know...may we never take our mothers for granted.

All of us have a mother, does it means that I have to forward this to 5=20 billion people???? I don=B4t need any message for reminding me that my mom loves me and that= =20 I love her. Please stop forwarding around this kind of messages on the net. The only aim of all this is clogging servers and taking bandwidth. Please stop!!! Do I sound rude? Well, I couldn=B4t care the less. This is discussion group, not a therapy one.

I didn't notice that at the bottom it said to pass it on.....I didn't post it here for that reason, it was only for whoever wanted to read it, I didn't send it as a chain letter, I should have removed that bottom line. I see alot of messages that are marked as OT.....you didn't have to read it or be so rude about it. I read alot of stuff that doesn't interest me or skip it.

Very good, you forward messages without even reading them. Excellent. Think if now someone is really forwarding this stuff to everyone by=20 e-mail and lots and lots of adresses are going around then a beautiful=20 worm propagates through addresses and a beautiful loving virus attacks a =

lot of computers... lovely, isn=B4t it? Think about it next time!

You are right, there is a lot of OTs on this group, too many...

About being rude: are you so nice and kind with people dumping rubbish=20 in front of your door, even with a nice tag "sorry, I=B4m dumping rubbish= =20 here"? I can jump over rubbish, but after a while I feel tired of it...

Hello SilverFox! I am new to this group and I want to say how much I enjoyed your story! Everyone needs a bright spot in their day and this was one for me!! I look forward everday to reading about the people here and the things that they are making and doing in their lives. Some people, like me are going through a lot of health issues, money situations, etc. and this to me was a reminder of not to forget or to take for granted even the smallest of things. We can all be gone in a minute. You just never know. Thank you again!!!! Fairwinner@ snipped-for-privacy@Yahoo.com

Hello Nora! Right now I am working on a thread crochet tablecloth. It is for a round table in a pineapple pattern. Funny thing is I don't have a round table!! I saw the pattern and knew I had to make it anyhow. I had started the pattern and got stuck on round 5. Since I have been doing thread crochet for many years now, I assumed the pattern was wrong. It just didn't look right. I set it down in frustration and picked it up 3 weeks later. Yep, It was me. The pattern was right, It just didn't look it. Good thing there is a picture of it to look at!!! I finished also a Christmas doily last month in red thread crochet. Last year when I had back Surgery and was recovering, I made and a mile a minutes afghan in blue/green/purple. I made it queen size for shrinkage. That was a pain because the connecting stitches didn't work at all and I had to change the pattern for that. It just would NOT lay flat. Craft wise I do all sorts of things and have MANY MANY pattern books and pamphlets from 1905 and on. I have collected them for about 20 years or so. (I am 39 I just had my birthday). Most of the things I have made I have given away, so you don't see too much finished projects around here unfortunately. I live here in Owego, New York and there is NO ONE I know of who does any kind of crafts. It is very sad. There are no groups or other peole anywhere near here who do. It is nice to see all the people here in this group and all of the things that they are making. Well that is a little about me. Thank you, Nora!! Have a good day!!

Hi Fairwinner, Welcome to the group. I see that we have a couple of things in common. Not crocheting, however. LOL Well, I can make Granny squares, but that's about it. I also live in upstate NY, but in Rochester. You could move up here, as yarn shops are popping up all over, there is a knitting guild, and knitting groups are meeting in various places. I also had back surgery, but mine was in 1985. I didn't do any handcrafts afterward...I had to walk, walk, walk...But, before my surgery, when I had to spend 2 weeks in bed, I knit a Cabbage Patch doll sweater. I have been knitting since I was only 5, thanks to my maternal grandmother. However, it had not been my craft of choice over the years. Instead, I would sew clothing, comforters, and curtains, do needlepoints, and have done 1 quilting project. My re-interest in knitting began about 4 years ago, and it is still going strong.

Hope to see you here often.

Hi Aud! Thank you for welcoming me here! I look forward to reading it every day!! I followed the link to your photos and you do just stunningly beautiful work!!! I have some things here to photograph and I still have to figure out this computer business of posting pictures, that is on my hit list of things to do. I am not sure I do the quality of work you do though!!! I took the name Fairwinner because I was on the spot. But yes I have won many, many times for crocheting, pies, cakes, jelly etc. It is something I look forward to every year. It is something to do. The circle of craft people has shrunk considerably here, and you only see things or meet them at fair time. Very sad. This year I will have several things to enter and I look forward to it in June. Do you have fairs there? I would love to visit your country!! It is so beautiful from you pictures!!! What projects are you currently working on if I may ask? What ever it is, I am sure It will be gorgeous!! Fairwinner

Hi Rusty! I have been to Connecticut. It is very nice there! I have a friend who lives on the Hudson River. My son was there over Easter and had a great time! I have to ask: What great things are you creating? I have several things I am in the middle of over here and I hope to finish. And of course, there is many things I want to get started on. My son decided he wants me to make him an afghan or a blanket. Brat. He knows he has a comforter coming!! It is of Garfield. He is 19 and doesn't care what others think of it. He could make one himself if he wanted to. He is of the age where there is too much to do and sitting down for any length of time like that would kill him!!! You know how that is!! Well you have a good day! Fairwinner

Hi Fairwinner! Thank you for nice words! No, we have no fairs like that here any more! I say "anymore", because I have a silver medal which my grandmother won for baking "Thin wafer crisp bread", "Flatbrød" in Norwegian. In the same fair competition she won silver medal for weaving. But this was in the nineteen twenties!!!! It sound so pleasant to be in a competition like that!

I don't think the quality of my work is THAT high. As I say, everything wil be better when you work with it, and now I have worked with it nearly 50 years, so it's better now than I was 16!LOL! But I do all sorts of things and all sorts of quality, I think ;-))

Just now I have crocheted a tote, which I was not too happy with. The shape was not good. Nealy ready to put it together, I turned it sideways, and then it was OK.

Now I am knitting a tote which I intend to use some "bits" of blue jeans as lining. I found a picture on Internet that inspired me. It was simple to make, but I am afraid you can say it is nearly a plagiarism! LOL! (But when you see all the Booga Bags with nearly no difference, I think I have not done anything too bad ;-))

I think a summer tote is a nice gift to give on summer Birthdays!! So may be I knit more of them. It is easy, rapid and relaxing after the "big" projects I have done this winter!

AND I need some dishclothes for my summerkitchen too, so there will be no big projects here for a long while! LOL! Aud ;-))

I'm surprised there are no fairs at all. How sad. Are there still agricultural fairs? Here in the US there are usually craft buildings associated with agricultural fairs. The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival has buildings and buildings of sales booths, but also some beautiful exhibits.

That's not plagiarism, that's inspiration. Look at all the painters and musicians and writers who are inspired by something and create something their own based on it. In that case it's called an allusion to or homage to the original, or variations on a theme. Though sometimes it's a satire on the original.

One of my use-up-the-scraps intarsia sweaters is definitely a satire. :-)

Tamar, In fact there are some agricultural fairs, but nothing like earlier. May be some places at the contryside, but you never hear much about craft fairs. A couple of places there are famous yearly markets, but I think there are mostly "professionals" or people who hope to sell "a little"on a more pemanent base. The ordinary markets where "everyone" came with their craft or their jam, bakery or vegetables for competition, belongs to the past, I think!

Glad you say so, Tamar, it's what I like to think! But we are so afraid of violate the copyrights That you sometimes wonder if what you feel is inspiration, really is stealing!LOL!

But I like that about satire! AUD ;-))
