There are a few yearly fairs, with competitions, here on Vancouver Island. People enter all kinds of things from animals, through fruit and flowers, to crafts of all kinds. There's also a "midway" with rides and, of course, lots of food! It's fun to go and look around (and munch on all those goodies!)
Our small town also has a weekly farmer's market with some great produce and home-baking.
