About the package going around

Mar 31, 2005 17 Replies

I have been reading about the packages being mailed to people, with various items in it. Now I don't know just how this is being done, but is the idea that you take something out and put something back in, and then mail it to someone else?

I'm just thinking out loud, and forgive me for butting in, but I wonder if maybe these could be done on a round robin idea, in that there could be a list of people that want to receive them before they are started? Then you would know in advance who to send them to? And, no, I'm not offering to run it if you all decide that you want to do it that way. LOL

My understanding of these packages, which is based just on what I have read here, is about the same as Norma's. Since I haven't participated, I certainly don't know all the pros and cons of the process. However, it is clear that several people are not going to be pleased to receive them.. Personally, I would find it very difficult to send one on without knowing that the receiver would welcome it. So for what it's worth, I would just want to say I think that Norma has come up with a very good solution to the problem. Unless a change like this made, more and more people will become unwilling recipients until the process dies out.

Nora you are right about the type of package that is going around.

Nora that sounds like a very good idea. Indeed it is as you assumed, you take some of the gifts out of the envelope going around and add something for each of the items you took.

Well Jan, In my case it is not so much that I was not pleased with the arrival of the envelope, however when a second envelope came around, I swung in behind Anna Maria, stating that I would prefer if I did not get a third one. But having a list of people who want to be involved in this Round Robin, or exchange beforehand, would solve that problem very nicely.

I feel like apologizing that i started those envelopes , It seems to have gone out of hand. The initial idea was the surprise element , and By all means i thought and hoped . people will send it on to Other people outside this ng ,,, which would have stoped the possibility of one getting all three, At the time i sent three since it was mentioned that i sent it and several people were asking to get one as well .. Now i apologize to all who felt , that they didn`t like it, or that it was too much. There are no strings attached , if you got it and don`t want to send it on , just close it , stop it ,,,, That is all .... Nothing bad is going to happen if you don`t send it on . My only hope was that those who recieved it , and exchanged something enjoyed the fun and seeing who had it before them. mirjam

Another option would be to email the potential recipient before you sent it and ask if they wanted it. That way it isn't set up formally - which may be something the originator wanted - but no-body gets it if they don't want it.

Mirjam

I totally understand the idea of the envelope and yes it was a good idea but I guess what got me was people didn't ask before they sent it on to the receiver.

Thanks for explaining the envelopes and let's hope that everyone understands the purpose of these packages. I am currently keeping this package that I received until we can figure out how to handle it.

Since the envelopes were fibre related, I don't feel any apology is necessary. I thought the whole thing was fun, and am surprised at the negativity about it.

You can't please everyone Mirjam, so I guess it's a lesson learned.

I enjoyed it and I know that some of the others here did too. So please, don't feel badly about it. You have apologized enough this week! Shelagh

I agree here. I received 2 envelopes and sent them on with good feelings. I'm sorry if this caused either of my recipients to be upset. As was suggested, contacting the next person you want to mail it to first would eliminate undue distress.

Mirjam, I know this was a "project" done with love. I thank you.

Janise

Indeed no appology is needed at all, I think talking about it will get it straightned out. The idea was nice, a sharing of little things.

Jumping in... it's a GREAT idea, and I'm sure it's lots of fun for those who wish to be included... and no, nobody needs to apologize... I personally simply cannot afford it.... that's why I specifically asked to be DIScluded (gawd, is that even a word?) Noreen

thought

don`t

Please don't apologize, Mirjam! It's a wonderful sharing idea for those who can afford to participate, I'm one who simply cannot, and that's the only reason I specifically requested to be NOT included! Hugs, Noreen

Excluded. *lol* Thankyou. I really needed to smile this morning, and you did it :o)

I do the same thing all the time!

Sarah

thank you for understanding that it was done with good meanings,. mirjam

Of course it was, Mirjam, I think we ALL agree with that! I love it, but I can see the other points of view. We are different, and should be happy for that! I am sure we find solutions! Normally things finds solutions here! :-) AUD ;-))

OMGosh, Sarah, as I slap my forehead... EXcluded, of COURSE! Du-uh! LOLOL Noreen who thinks comedy might be another avenue to pursue!

I have to agree with Noreen. It's a really great idea, and when I got one, it was fun to see what was in there and think about where everything came from, and what I could send back that the next person would find just as fun. But then circumstances got bad, and when I heard there were several out there, that's when I posted to be excluded, because something like return postage that was minimal previously became one of those not-absolutely-necessary-expenses that I had to cut out.

And although as someone previously here posted out, we could always just not send them on, I would have felt really selfish keeping all the lovely contents of the envelope to myself! So Mirjam, I don't see any reason for you to apologize, I thought the sharing was wonderful -- but sometimes unfortunate circumstances intervene.
