out & about

rcty, while out and about, I look for crocheted or knitted garments that people wear. I saw a five or six year old wearing a pink poncho. I needed a closer look at the stitch pattern, but I thought it was crocheted. I saw a few teen-aged boys wearing both knitted and crocheted caps. I saw a lady in a turtleneck sweater! And, I saw a lacy, crocheted shawl. It seemed like whoever was just throwing that thing AnyWhere, and that it would wear out very, very soon. [aargh -- it was white and lacy

-- very beautiful.] The pattern seemed like many a wagon wheel motifs.

All in all: some of these people know (maybe / maybe not) I'm looking closely at their garments -- not necessarily at _them_. It can be kinda awkward-like, but great good fun for me.

Really? I tend to just walk up and start muttering something about the stitches and yarn!

I do this Mirjam, I will boldly go and say to the wearer....''I hope you don't mind, I was just admiring your ''''garment'''' and was wondering if you made this, it is beautiful'' that usually gets them to show it off proudly

Mirjam I do that as well - people love you to admire their work. It goes the other way too - I have a multi coloured sleeveless pullover I wear and every time I do - without fail- someone askes me if I made it and how could they get a pattern - this is not possible as I made it up row for row as I went along, but one never mings the asking.
