RIght you are! I knew that it was a needle craft. What is the difference between needlepoint and embroidery?

I'm not sure but I think embroidery is various stitches on fabric (long, short, knotted, etc) and needle point is making images with the same sized stitches that go along the grid of the fabric or mesh. Am I close, anyone?

There are different stitches in needlepoint, too, but I guess what sets it apart from embroidery is that it is done on a mesh canvas. Also, most needlepoint I've seen is done on a painted mesh canvas, so that you are following the colored pattern on the canvas. The canvases can be quite expensive.

I've done a little needlepoint over the years, but prefer embroidery, and I prefer counted thread embroidery.

Embroidery is embellishing a ground fabric with stitches. Any ground fabric, any stitches, using any threads(including metals). Needlepoint is one branch of embroidery, and yes, it is done on canvas, in fact its proper name is "canvaswork". Painted canvases are a relatively new invention, I loathe them and would much rather draw my own designs - it is much too easy to miss a stitch or two on those painted ones. I personally do not care for charts, either, although they are heavily used in needlepoint as well as in counted cross stitch.
